Run a circuit live

Keep a circuit running while you adjust the generator and component values.

Step 1

Start live simulation

  1. Choose OhmNest native and Transient · time domain. Set Duration to 0.04 s and 800 samples.
  2. Select Live in the toolbar and press Run live. Open Oscilloscope and select the source and capacitor channels.
  3. Leave Trigger ↑ unchecked to see the waveform roll across the scope. Enable Trigger ↑ at 0 V to align rising edges and hold a stable waveform.
Check your result

The button becomes Stop live. The simulated time and window count keep increasing.

If you get stuck: Duration is the simulated time in each displayed window. Updates arrive about four times a second when the server can keep up; simulated time is independent of wall-clock time.

Step 2

Adjust values while running

  1. Open Function generator. Set Frequency to 200 Hz and commit the change with Enter or by leaving the field.
  2. Return to Oscilloscope. Change R1 Resistance to 2k in the inspector and observe the output change.
Check your result

New windows reflect your edits automatically. Capacitor voltage, inductor current and digital memory continue between windows.

If you get stuck: Switch and logic-input states also update through their inspector fields. Frequency changes can introduce a phase jump. Rewiring, adding/removing parts or changing initial conditions requires a fresh run.

Step 3

Freeze and inspect the latest window

  1. Press Stop live. Inspect the chart or export its measurements as CSV.
  2. Press Run live again when ready. This starts a new simulation from time zero.
Check your result

Stop freezes the window currently visible on the scope. A new run initializes the circuit again.

If you get stuck: Leaving the browser tab or changing workspace stops Live. A disconnected session expires after 30 seconds. Live uses one simulation allowance per started minute, not per screen update.

Step 4

Take a standalone capture

  1. Stop live, select Single capture in the toolbar, then press Capture once.
  2. Use this mode when you need a repeatable capture from the configured initial conditions, or select an analysis such as AC or ngspice that uses single capture automatically.
Check your result

Capture once finishes one analysis and leaves its results visible.

If you get stuck: A live export contains only the latest window; its state depends on earlier windows and edits. It does not include the whole live run or a replayable edit history.
